Tidewater
Southern 44 tonner 735 hadn't been silver and orange for long when it was
assigned to escort steamer 132 and a happy collection of railfans down
the middle of Ninth Street on a grey Valley day in 1951. The group chartered
the 132 for a round trip between Oakland and Turlock for a last look at
steam on this popular short line.
The route naturally included the traction-like running down Modesto's Ninth Street, and by the looks of things was quite a curiosity to the locals. By this late date both electrics were off the property
and the remaining stretch of overhead wire long removed.
