Feather River GP40s is designed for optimum viewing using a screen resolution
of 800x600 with color set to 16-bit or higher. Minimum requirements are
a screen resolution of 640x480 using 256 colors, however, since the article
design uses frames, at 640x480 not all photos will displayed will fit in
the main window frame. This means you may need to use the horizontal scroll
bar occasionally to view and read all the text.
INTRODUCTION TO THE ARTICLE
When the manuscript for "Feather River GP40s" was first
submitted to Pacific RailNews (PRN) back in the Fall of 1992, it was scheduled
for publication by early the next summer. Due to changes in the editorial
staff at PRN and the purchase of Interurban Press by Pentrex, the article
was bumped back to the spring of 1996, and was published in April of that
year
without my knowledge..
I point this out because I had changes to be applied to
the article before PRN published it. Instead, the article hit the streets
with not quite everything right (though no glaring errors). With web page
development came the opportunity to right a wrong.by posting the corrected
manuscript as an online article.
The Roster
I like Rosters! but due to space considerions the final version of "Feather River GP40s" was published by PRN without the roster summary included with the manuscript. So for you "number crunchers" I have included not only the roster summary but also a disposition roster originally published in the second volume of The Feather River Route Vol II.
About The Photos
The photos used to illustrate this article are often in black & white, and many have been previously published in the Feather River Route books. To fill in some holes in my coverage I have borrowed images from Frank Brehm's excellent My Western Pacific Home Page. I will eventaully purchase a scanner which will allow me more flexibility in photo usage in general.
