39. Thomas⁵ McGlauflin (John⁴, James³ MacLachlan, James², John¹) was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 9 June 1822. Thomas died April 20, 1864 in Washington, D.C., at 41 years of age.

He married Alice M. about 1846. Alice was born 1828 in ME. Thomas lived on Smith's Ridge, was a teacher, farmer, lumberman, selectman, school committeeman, and a Republican representative in the State Legislature. He joined the Christian Church, although later identified with Universalism. In 1863 he joined the Union Army with 1st Maine Heavy Artillery, and had reached the position of Ordinance Sergeant when died. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Thomas McGlauflin and Alice M. had the following children:

• 72 i. Elsie⁶ McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 25 April 1847.

• 73 ii. Esther McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 28 August 1848. Esther died 15 November 1848 in Charlotte, Washington, ME, at less than one year of age.

• 74 iii. Lorimer McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 23 November 1849. Lorimar enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 when he was just 14. After returning to Maine he went to Wisconsin, but then came back to Charlotte in 1881, and remained there the rest of his life, farming and lumbering. He was chairman of the board of selectmen, postmaster, prominent in the farmer's grange, a Republican who was, according to a descendant, "a supporter of the Methodist church, but member of none, and in faith a Universalist".

• 75 iv. Alvin McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 13 January 1852.

• 76 v. Alice Maria McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 21 February 1854. Alice died 20 May 1862 in Charlotte, Washington, ME, at 8 years of age.

• 77 vi. William Henry McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 2 October 1855. William had a distinguished academic career which included a Masters Degree and two Doctorates. He was appointed in 1907 General Superintendent of the Universalist Churches of America, the highest position possible.

• 78 vii. Emaline McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 18 April 1858.

• 79 viii. Lewis McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 15 May 1861. Lewis died 20 February 1875 in Charlotte, Washington, ME, at 13 years of age.

• 80 ix. Elsie McGlauflin was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 21 May 1862.
