If you have a Ramsdell ancestor who does not appear in this archive, please contact me anyways. I have thousands of Ramsdells in my database who are not yet displayed on this site.

There are two primary Ramsdell lines of colonial ancestry in our country. The oldest is the Joseph Ramsden (or Ramsdell) line of Plymouth, Mass. Joseph married Frances Eaton and thus, forever united the Ramsdell name with the Mayflower passengers. John Ramsdell, who may have been a member of the Dorchester group of merchants who sailed in 1632, was early at Lynn, Mass. The name Ramsdell can now be found throughout the United States, but the heaviest concentration can still be found in Massachusetts, Maine and New York, with a peppering found throughout the northern tier states. Ramsdells have traditionally rarely swayed south of the Mason-Dixon, although the author is writing this from Manassas, Virginia!
